On the Road with Mike and Sarah

A New Adventure Begins…

In 2003, as we planned for our new life together as a married couple, we always said that our desire was to serve the Lord with reckless abandon.  We weren’t quite sure what that would look like, and still are uncertain of all that lies ahead but God continues to show us the next step to take.

One thing we have known is that God has given us a desire to serve Him through short-term missions.  As we sought to prepare ourselves for that ministry, we packed up our lives in Mobile, AL and moved to Vancouver, WA to attend Western Seminary.  We learned about missions, the study of Scripture, and about ourselves and our calling.  We saw that, while seminary was wonderful (and intensive), it was not exactly what we needed.  We stayed in Washington and Mike earned his Emergency Medical Technician certificate so he could be of more help on the mission field.

We definitely have had some ups and downs along the way, but God has been faithful.  We struggled with our calling at different times, both with the call to ministry and the call to be support-based missionaries.  God has indeed changed our hearts and minds to line up with His and has opened the doors wide for us to begin work with Adventures in Missions.

Adventures in Missions (AIM)

AIM is an interdenominational mission organization based in Gainesville, GA.  The vision is to raise up a generation of disciples radically committed to Christ.  The focus of AIM and the key to the Great Commission is discipleship.  The goal is to not only minister to and share the Gospel with people all over the world, but to also help the trip participants move to a higher level in their relationship with Jesus Christ.  AIM provides different levels of trips ranging from 7-10 days all the way to the 1-year  First Year Missionary program.  They offer trips for youth, college, adults and families.  We would love for you to check out their website and find out more info- www.adventures.org.

What lies ahead?

In December of 2007, Mike began the application process with AIM.  After many phone calls, a face-to-face interview, and several personality/gifting tests, Mike was given the official job offer with AIM in March 2008.

Mike will be working in the set-up department helping with the plans, details, and logistics for mission trips.  He will also be leading trips occasionally throughout the year.  And, hopefully, Sarah will get to go too!  This position is scheduled to begin in September 2008.  We will be living in or around Gainesville, GA where AIM is headquartered.

Also, AIM has given us the opportunity to work with them this summer as the Ministry Coordinators (a paid seasonal position) in New Orleans, LA.  Each week, teams come in to do relief work and minister to the community.  We would be responsible for leading and discipling the AIM project leaders for each group and overseeing much of the summer program.  This is an exciting opportunity for us as we would get to do full-time ministry together and would get to begin in June instead of waiting until September.

Will you join us?

We need you to partner with us in this ministry.  There are two ways you can join with us.  First and foremost, we desperately need your prayer support as we begin this new adventure.  There are several specifics we would love for you to be praying about.

* Please pray for our spiritual growth and protection.  We cannot do any of this work or fight any of the battles ahead by relying on our own strength or wisdom.

*We have decided to go work in New Orleans this summer.  Please pray that God will guide us as we prepare for this work.

* That God provides the support we need.  Our preparation time is more hectic since we have committed to New Orleans.

* Wisdom as we search for a place to live in Georgia.

* That God would help Sarah as she begins looking for a job after we move.

Also, you can partner with us through financial support.  While AIM is able to provide a portion of Mike’s salary, we are required to raise the balance.  We know that God has called us to this ministry and that He will provide.
